How to redact an image

  1. Choose one or more static JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or uncompressed BMP images, a folder or a ZIP archive.
  2. Draw areas or add one with the button, then choose solid color, pixelation or blur.
  3. Apply the changes, inspect the actual result and download it.

Draw and adjust several areas

Draw a rectangle on the preview. Drag an existing area to move it, or use X, Y, width and height for precise placement. Add up to 12 areas; select an area from the list, remove it or undo the last addition. Arrow keys move the selected area, Shift moves by ten pixels, and Escape cancels the current pointer gesture.

The selected method applies to every area. Folder and ZIP batches use the same relative regions, so inspect every result when images have different content. The editor keeps its settings only in this tool; image Tabs share file references, not redaction regions.

Choose the right way to cover information

Opaque solid color replaces all pixels inside the selected rectangle, including transparent pixels. Use it for text, names or other content that must be covered. Pixelation and blur only make content harder to read; they do not guarantee that it cannot be inferred or recovered. Keep originals private and check the actual downloaded image before sharing.

PNG and WebP preserve transparency outside the areas. JPEG uses the selected background. All results are re-encoded without copying source EXIF metadata. Preview samples have a longest side of 1000 pixels; the actual export retains the original dimensions.

Bounded local processing

Each image is limited to 15 MB, 16 million pixels and 8192 pixels per side. Blur allows up to 2 million pixels in each area and 8 million across all areas, with a 45-second checkpoint budget. Choose solid color, pixelation or smaller areas if this limit is exceeded. Native decoding and encoding cannot be stopped inside a single browser operation.

Process a folder or ZIP locally

Import up to 50 images, 100 MB of input and 100 million pixels in total. Each image must stay within 15 MB, 16 million pixels and 8192 pixels per side. Folder imports include nested folders; non-image files are skipped. All files stay in this page’s memory.

Apply the same settings and process images one at a time. Failed images are listed separately and do not block other files. Preview individual results or download a ZIP with preserved folder paths and unique output names. Encrypted ZIPs, ZIP64 and nested archives are unsupported. Changing settings clears old results; cancelling keeps already completed results.

Common questions

Does blur safely remove sensitive text?

No. Blur and pixelation reduce legibility but do not promise secrecy. Use fully opaque solid coverage for sensitive content and inspect the exported file.

Can I cover the same place in a batch?

Yes. Areas use relative image coordinates. Different content or dimensions require careful review of each result before sharing.

Will changing tools keep my regions?

Only the image files and safe relative paths are shared between image Tabs. Regions, parameters and results are local to this tool and reset when you leave it.
